LaMarriol Smith assumed the responsibilities of the City of Buda's Director of Communications in June 2021. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Baylor University, in Waco, Texas, and her Master of Public Affairs degree in Public Affairs with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the L.B.J. School of Public Affairs at University of Texas in Austin. She is "all but dissertation" toward her doctorate (Ph.D.) in Adult, Professional and Community Education from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas . Her dissertation area is Authentic Leadership Characteristics of Women of Color.
Prior to joining the City of Buda, Smith was Chief Administrative Officer for her communications consulting business, LL Smith Enterprises. She formerly was Executive Manager for Communications and Education with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority in Seguin, Texas, and had been Executive Director of College Relations for Austin College in Sherman, Texas. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of American (PRSA), the PRSA Public Affairs and Government Section, the PRSA Counselors of Higher Education Section, the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO), and the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE). She also serves as a Board Member of the Calaboose African American History Museum in San Marcos, Texas.
