Kenneth Williams, City Manager of the City of Buda, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). Williams is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.
ICMA’s mission is to advance professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics and by increasing the proficiency of appointed chief administrative officers, assistant administrators, and other employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization’s 13,000 members in 27 countries also include educators, students, and other local government employees.
To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field; and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.
“The Credentialed Manager designation is only awarded to ten percent of all City Managers within the ICMA organization,” said Lee Urbanvosky, Mayor of City of Buda. “I am proud to work with such a committed and knowledgeable city manager. This designation not only shows Kenneth’s dedication to his craft, but to the City of Buda and its residents.”
Kenneth Williams has over 33 years of local government experience. Prior to his appointment in 2008 as City Manager of the City of Buda, he served as City Manager of the City of Diboll, Assistant City Manager of Administrative Services, Director of Public Works and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Lufkin. During his tenure as the Emergency Management Coordinator, Williams was responsible for coordinating the City’s responses to the Space Shuttle Columbia Tragedy, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
Highlights of Kenneth Williams’s ICMA membership include: Immediate Past President of Texas City Managers Association, member of the 2021 Regional Conference Education Committee, Local Government Management Fellowship Advisory Board, and Region 7 Nominating Committee.
Kenneth Williams has also made significant contributions to several other organizations, including: the National Forum of Black Public Administrators Board of Directors and Texas Women's Leadership Institute Advisory Board member.
