Oak wilt is one of the most destructive tree diseases in central Texas.
It is an infectious disease caused by the
fungus Ceratocystis fagacearum, which invades and disables the water-conducting system in susceptible tree areas. All oaks are susceptible to this disease, but some oak species are affected more than others. Unfortunately, there is no known way to save an oak tree infected by oak wilt. The only way to maintain healthy trees is through prevention.
