Ron Fletcher was elected to the Buda City Council in May of 2008. Prior to joining the Council, he served as chair of Buda’s first Planning and Zoning Commission where he was instrumental in developing Buda’s Unified Development Code. He also served on Buda’s Home Rule Charter Commission where he helped write the first Home Rule Charter, which was adopted by a large majority in a November 2007 election.
Since joining the Council, he has concentrated on intergovernmental relations especially in the areas of regional planning for land use, transportation and economic development. He served as the alternate small cities representative from Hays County on the Transportation Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization until that position was eliminated in 2010. He has served as Buda’s representative to the Capital Area Council of Governments since 2009, and was elected to their Executive Committee in 2010. He has been active in Envision Central Texas’ regional planning efforts dating back to his days on Buda’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
Councilmember Fletcher has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He fell a dissertation short of a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. After retiring following a career as an Air Force fighter pilot, he began teaching at local colleges. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Government at Austin Community College where he specializes in Texas State and Local Government.
He is married to the former Karen Ahn of Seoul, Korea. They have three grown children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He serves as Chairman of the Congregation at Good Shepherd Ministries in Buda. His favorite hobby is watching Fighting Texas Aggie football in person.
